Shakespeare In the Parking Lot takes on The Tokens Improv Troup in an evening of full contact comedy bard-style. No fouls. No time-outs. Audience will be drafted in service to the bard!

Gary Stroutsos performs world flute music drawn from traditional cultures. Evoking a spirit of place, and the voices of the land, his work includes internationally acclaimed recordings at sacred sites. In over twenty releases, Stroutsos has created a body of work which expresses a passion for sound traveling: music without borders.

Meet artist Janet Marcavage whose works will appear at Pacific Lutheran University, October 13 - November 10. In this new work, she explores a visual language that intersects the biological, domestic, and consumer world. Her patterned imagery and the repetitive process of screenprinting echoes the routine and surroundings of daily life.

Listen to great live music performed by "What Happened" get a mini swing dance lesson taught by Melanie Kirk-Stauffer and Vadne Domeika. Enjoy refreshments and socialize. The Swing dance lesson will be provided by Dance Theatre Northwest a 501 C-3 non-profit community based organization focused on promoting arts education and dance as an important art form.

As part of its Visiting Writer Series, Pacific Lutheran University will host a reading with author Lauren Groff whose first novel, The Monsters of Templeton, was a New York Times and Booksense bestseller and was shortlisted for the Orange Prize for New Writers. The reading will be followed with a question/answer session wherein Lauren will discuss her life as a writer and approaches to writing fiction.

Come help out on a fun art project! The 253 Collective is creating an art quilt to represent the Tacoma area. Add your flare to this project by bringing your own 4'' x 4'' painting, drawing, photograph, etc (paper or fabric please). Or create your square on site using provided materials. The finished Art Quilt will be on display through the end of the year.

Dr. Paul Schultz, Artistic Director of the Northwest Repertory Singers, one of our region’s premier choral ensembles, discusses the “Marriage of Music and Text” as the choir provides a demonstration of some of the word painting in the music of Bach and Handel.

BEYOND CRAYONS & FINGER PAINTING YOUTH ART PROJECT is a two component visual arts project featuring a month long Youth Art Exhibition scheduled for Oct 8th-Oct. 29th 2011, accompanied by a one-day Art Workshop on Saturday, Oct. 22nd. 2011 from 11am-3pm. The goal of the project is to introduce artists (ages 7-19) with developing art aptitude to wider access to visual arts opportunities.
